The goal is to have a web-based client that retrieves / sends mail as a client for all of them. I have several, some self-hosted, some work servers, some client servers, etc. Note: this topic is only about webmail, not the underlying mailserver itself. It's so baffling that the email clients in mobile phones are so much better from a UX standpoint than the desktop clients are. The interface looks modern and is very easy to use. I've tried this before, account emails aren't so neatly separated. Horde webmail- This is great for users who require a full suite of features, including mobile email access and advanced productivity tools. I would also rather not "just forward everything to gmail and use filtering". Horde (way back in university, but this is a whole ecosystem).the built-in Mail client of nextcloud (I disabled this when I enabled roundcube).rainloop (I've already forgotten the advantages / disadvantages, but it's close to parity with roundcube).squirrelmail (has been in production for a client for over a decade, I know it's basic).Very short list of stuff I've tried before: If, say, I was addicted to gmail's interface and search capabilities, but wanted my own webmail client aggregating everything (nearly a dozen email services, blame my clients), what would be the closest or best-featured webmail to get? I already have a powerful self-hosted server (or three) for everything else, but my webmail client for it (roundcube) is basic AF because I literally only use it to read local server alerts. I dont mind creating a custom theme to spruce them up some, but even the layout of functionality on most webmail solutions feels like terrible UX. A ton of webmail solutions just feel like the design is stuck in the 90s. nearly 2 decades now and it's time to call it quits. Ive looked at SquirrelMail, Horde, and a few others as well, and the design is just terrible. I've been giving desktop email apps on and off chances for over a. And have fun dual-booting or having multiple machines and syncing it over. The absolute top of the line of almost any platform never seems to be able to handle gmail's volume, or chokes up on multiple servers, or goes on long vacations trying to send/receive mails while raiding your disk space and RAM. I'm just up and completely giving up on desktop email apps. What Is SelfHosted, As it pertains to this subreddit? Also include hints and tips for less technical readers.
